Con motivo de la restauración de El Palacio de los Marqueses de la Algaba, se ha editado este libro recogiendo la historia del lugar, su arquitectura, arte, sus propietarios, la decadencia que sufrió en los siglos XIX y XX, la compra del edificio y su restauración. Se ha salvado de este modo, uno de los ejemplos más singulares del arte mudejar civil de la ciudad y gracias al libro se podrá dar a conocer con detalle a todos.
En presencia del Alcalde de Sevilla Juan Ignacio Zoido, quien presidió el acto, Alfredo J. Morales explicó las bondades del libro. Felicito a sus autores Alberto Oliver y Alfonso Pleguezuelo. Morales también felicitó al ayuntamiento recalcando la importancia de que lo que empezó como una serie de trabajos de investigación y restauración, no solo hizo realidad la restauración de un monumento de gran valor, sino que también ha permitido escribir este libro. De este modo se dará a conocer dar a conocer la historia, y el proceso de restauración del monumento.
Alfonso Pleguezuelo, uno de los dos autores fue desgranando detalles de todo el proceso en una lección magistral y recalcó la importancia fomentar la cultura en la sociedad, de la importancia de invertir en cultura. Terminó con la frase rotunda «si cree usted que la cultura es cara, pruebe con la ignorancia».
El alcalde se comprometió en seguir apoyando la cultura, tuvo unas cariñosas palabras de agradecimiento para Benito Navarrete y le pidió a Alberto Oliver que también hablase sobre el libro. Oliver reflexionó poéticamente en torno a la idea de que el futuro de este palacio irá paralelo a la historia de la ciudad. La actual Marquesa de la Algaba, que es la también Duquesa de Alba disculpó no haber podido asistir. Quién si asistió y es descendiente directo de los Marqueses de la Algaba , Jose Luis Medina del Corral, de Victorio & Lucchino.
El libro ha sido editado por el Ayuntamiento de Sevilla en colaboración con ICAS Instituto de la Cultura y las Artes de Sevilla. Es el segundo libro que se edita bajo la marca editorial: Patrimonium Hispalense. Es una iniciativa con la que se quiere difundir el patrimonio cultural de Sevilla.
Tras la presentación nos mostraron distintas estancias del palacio. Algunas del piso superior están siendo acondicionadas para albergar un museo mudéjar y exposiciones. Este monumento, pasará a albergar a partir de principios del próximo año, el centro de Interpretación del Mudejar, una exposición que estará compuesta por más de 100 piezas de propiedad municipal, autonómica y estatal. para dar a conocer la historia y el arte Mudéjar. Este proyecto, que servirá para dinamizar la zona norte, creando una ruta cultural, es una iniciativa de Participación ciudadana y de las delegaciones de Cultura y está dotado con 70.000 €. Se ha recuperado así un interesante espacio cultural en Sevilla.

On the occasion of the restoration of the Palace of the Marquises of Algaba,The Council Hall has edited this book that offers the site’s origins, history, architecture, art, its owners, the decline it suffered both in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the purchase of the building and its restoration. It has been saved therefore, one of the most unique examples of Sevillian Civil Moorish arquitecture, and thanks to the book it will be shared with everybody.
In presence of the Mayor of Sevilla Juan Ignacio Zoido, who chaired the event, Alfredo J. Morales explained the benefits of the book. I congratulate the authors Alberto Alfonso Oliver and Pleguezuelo. Morales also congratulated the council stressing the importance of what began as a series of research studies for the restoration, and finally, appart from saving the monument of great value and interest, they could produce this book. This was edited and released to publicize the history, art and the process of restoration of this Renaissance palace.
Professor Alfonso, one of the two authors, was reeling off details of the entire process in an elocuent lecture and emphasized the importance to promote culture in society, the importance of investing in culture. It ended with the resounding phrase «if you think culture is expensive, try with ignorance.»
The mayor pledged to continue supporting culture, as he is currently doing, and also had some kind words of thanks to Benito Navarrete. He asked Alberto Oliver also to speak about the book. Oliver mused poetically about the idea that the future of this palace will parallel to the history of the city, as it had done in the past. The current Marquise of the Algaba, which is also the Duchess of Alba couldn´t attend. However, a direct descendant of the Marquis of Algaba, Jose Luis Medina del Corral, from Victorio & Lucchino attended the presentation together with Jose Victor Rodriguez Caro.
The book was published by the City Council of Sevilla in collaboration with ICAS Institute of Culture and Arts of Seville. It is the second book to be published under the brand Editorial: Patrimonium Hispalense. It is an initiative which is to spread the cultural heritage of Seville.
Following the presentation the organisation showed us different rooms of the palace. Some of the first floor halls are being accomodated in order to hold exhibitions . This monument, will host from early next year, the Mudejar Interpretation center, an exhibition that will show over 100 pieces belonging to the Spanish, Andalusian and Sevillian government institutions, to publicize the history of Mudéjar art . This project, which will enliven and promote the north quarter of Sevilla, by creating a cultural route, is an initiative of The Citizen Participation area and of the Culture Delegation (Beltrán Pérez García and María del Mar Sánchez Estrella where both present), and is endowed with 70,000 €. An unique Palace of great importance has been saved, as well as a new interesting cultural space in Seville.
