Blondie Economics is the title of the new book by Felix Moreno de la Cova y Solis , illustrated by Isabel Sánchez-Bella.
Can you explain what economy is about, marginal utility of goods, marginal cost, indirect exchange, the subjective value, etc, in a simple yet smart way? This book does it and in a witty, visual and didactic way too.
As Albert Einstein said: «If you can not explain something simply, then you do not get it right.»
Only when one knows a lot about something, one is capable of properly explaining it, and Felix knows a lot about economics. If we add that he is a really great person, intelligent, witty, well educated and unpredictable, can expect anything.
Felix is an exceptional being. I have the good fortune to know him well and it is always a pleasure to talk to him about anything. This book, full of illustrations as a children’s toy story, with plenty of examples for the texts,he says is a small introduction which explains some basics concepts on economy, and where we are encouraged to go deeper on the subject. Nevertheless, it is much more than this, as you will find out. Felix recommends various books by authors such as Friedrich. A. Hayek, Jesus Huerta de Soto, Henry Hazlitt, Menger, Frederic Bastiat and Milton Friedman among others.
The Golden Book: The first question is obvious … «Blondie Economics» Why that title?
Félix Moreno de la Cova: The message of this book is that we must look beyond appearances. I am a great admirer of Bastiat and heartily recommend his «What we see and what we don´t see.» Both our character as the book itself are full of surprises, hidden messages, references and little jokes that make the book better as we read along. Each character has a story and every example is based on a real case out of the headlines. There are a couple of goodies for cryptography fans, and a couple of predictions in a style that those who have read the Centuries of Nostradamus will recognize. Of course those who just take a cursory reading do not deserve to get the joke explained…
ELDO: Why do we need a basic introduction to economy?
FM: Unfortunately economists abuse and often complicate relatively simple matters with their jargon, becoming lost themselves. If you also mix political incentives to economically justify what has already decided to do for other reasons … well, I thought it would be refreshing to review the basic principles clearly and unequivocally, not only to teach those who want to start, but also to refresh the concepts to those who know too much …
ELDO: To which public figure would you give this book?
FM: To many. I would recommend a chapter to more than a minister … Cristina Kirchner should certainly review the chapter on Property. Zapatero would benefit greatly from the chapter on savings and capital. Mario Draghi should take a look at the chapter on money. De Guindos may have forgotten how prices are formed, or so it seems.
ELDO: What do you hope to achieve with this book?
FM: Arouse curiosity about the economy and give a simple and fun introduction to the public, while making the book entertaining and interesting on several levels for those who already know something more. My hope is that readers will continue with the recommended readings. The other objective is to promote entrepreneurial values in young readers with the example of the protagonist. I hope many readers are encouraged to start their own business!
ELDO: Where can we find the book?
FM: We are in the XXI century. Search «Economics for Blondes» in Google is the easiest and fastest way to find it.
ELDO: How soon in other languages?
FM: «Blondie Economics» is now available and published in electronic form, for those who want to read in English. In time we hope to translate it into more languages.

I encourage you to watch this video to see what I said earlier about Felix and also to realise that this book contains much more than it apparently shows. Enjoy.
